An aerospace accumulator is a sealed device in a hydraulic system that stores energy by compressing gas against hydraulic fluid commonly in piston-separated designs so the system can maintain pressure, smooth pulsations, and deliver emergency or peak power on demand. Over the past 10–15 years, its role has evolved with the shift toward “more-electric” aircraft: while many secondary functions migrated from centralized hydraulics to electrically driven architectures and integrated/electro-hydrostatic actuators, accumulators remain essential for pressure stability, brake backup, landing-gear operations, and transient load smoothing, particularly where hydraulics are still preferred for power density and fault tolerance.
