The Bureau of Indian Standards, a governing authority in the area of food consumption and public distribution, operates under the Act of 2016 The authority’s main function is to standardize goods and services. Every product that is sold in a marketplace must go through a licensing process accompanied by surveillance. The licensing process is the gate that allows the product to sell in the market. During this process, surveillance takes place through product inspection. Standardization and certification procedures are required for all products to be registered with BIS.
