Fish are raised in closed systems with minimal water exchange in a new and environmentally friendly aquaculture method known as biofloc fish culture. The method depends on the creation of a thick microbial biofilm referred to as “bioflocs,” composed of bacteria, algae, and other microorganisms. Bioflocs are responsible for a cleaner and greener farming system through maintaining the quality of the water, providing fish with nutrients, and stopping the accumulation of wastes.
