Gangotri is a sacred pilgrimage shrine, located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, in the Uttarkashi district. The temple is situated at an elevation of 3,100 meters (10,1170 feet) above sea level, and it is surrounded by snow-capped peaks. It is the key pilgrimage site of the Char Dham yatra circuits and is often the main headstream of the Ganga River.
