Cardioversion and defibrillation are medical procedures used to restore normal heart rhythms, but they differ in their application and urgency. Cardioversion is typically a planned procedure used to treat arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. It delivers a controlled, synchronized electrical shock to the heart at a specific point in the cardiac cycle, helping restore a regular heartbeat.
